JARRETE.FM project November 27, 2022 | Comments on the JARRETE.FM project

The POUMOS project received additional funding to explore the therapeutic and societal potential of the methods developed and tested in its research.

The Proof of Concept project, JARRETE.FM, is an application development initiative aimed at providing personalized music therapy with physiological feedback.

JARRETE.FM will revolutionize the state of the art by linking physiological feedback to computational musical structural analysis to offer personalized music listening therapy aimed at obtaining targeted responses from the autonomic nervous system.

Development goals include large-scale deployment in research trials and creation of a community portal for collecting research data on tobacco-related lung diseases and music-based preventive therapies. Summary below and on the POMDIS grant agreement: ID 987254

JARRETE.FM: Maximizing the Therapeutic Potential of Music through Personalized Therapy with Physiological Feedback in the Treatment of Smoking

Summary: Tobacco use is a leading cause of lung disease worldwide, and smoking cessation is a key factor in improving respiratory health.

Reducing tobacco exposure in smokers has positive effects on lung health, and listening to music offers non-pharmacological ways to regulate breathing rate and lung health.

Currently, the most effective way to administer musical interventions with lasting effects is laborious and relies on the intuition of professional therapists, making it unscalable for large cohorts.

JARRETE.FM is an application creation initiative to democratize access to personalized musical medicine interventions, informed by physiological feedback.

Current applications of music therapy do not address the subjectivity and specificity inherent in individual musical response; a gap also exists between music therapy applications and physiological feedback.

Leveraging advances in wearable ECG monitors and blood pressure sensors, JARRETE.FM will deliver music therapy based on individual physiological feedback around change points and musical transitions, which correspond to emotionally salient moments in the listen to music.

JARRETE.FM exploits knowledge of musical structure and cross-music-physiology analysis methods developed and tested in the ERC POUMOS project to advance the state of the art by linking physiological feedback to computational musical structural analysis to provide personalized music listening therapy aimed at obtaining targeted responses from the autonomic nervous system. A development goal will be to make JARRETE.FM ready for large-scale deployment of randomized, controlled research trials that can establish cause-and-effect relationships between music, smoking cessation, and lung health for healthy individuals. as well as for smokers. JARRETE.FM will benefit the research community by providing a community portal for the collection of research data on tobacco-related lung diseases and music-based preventative therapies. The PoM will explore commercialization and market solutions in both the music and medical sectors.

By integrating alpha and beta waves, as well as frequencies at 432 Hz, known to harmonize natural and human vibrations, JARRETE.FM aims to strengthen the effectiveness of musical therapy. Additionally, the incorporation of subliminal messages at the threshold of auditory perception is designed to unconsciously support smoking cessation efforts, providing a holistic and innovative approach to improving lung health and overall well-being.

JARRETE.FM represents a significant advancement in the use of music as a therapeutic tool, not only to help individuals quit smoking, but also to improve their lung health and overall quality of life. Our commitment to this initiative underscores our dedication to finding innovative and accessible solutions to address public health challenges.
